Description
Insulated Multilayer Pipe With Aluminium Core
This is a multilayer pipe constructed from PEX, aluminium and PEX, supplied as a 50 metre coil with 10 mm thick insulation and a blue outer finish. The aluminium layer forms an oxygen barrier and provides shape stability, while the insulation reduces heat loss, condensation and energy consumption.
The pipe construction consists of an inner PEX layer, an intermediate aluminium layer and an outer PEX layer. The outer covering is a blue protective jacket or insulation coating.
Properties include corrosion resistance, a lightweight build and flexible installation. Heat loss and condensation on cold water lines are reduced, and the aluminium layer acts as an oxygen diffusion barrier. Installation labour is generally lower than copper or steel pipe.
Common standards applicable to PEX aluminium PEX systems include EN ISO 21003 for multilayer piping systems used in hot and cold water installations, EN ISO 15875 for PEX piping systems, and BS EN 806 for drinking water installations. WRAS approval may apply where intended for potable water use in the UK, along with the UK Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations where applicable. Actual certifications depend on manufacturer.
