National Pipe Thread or NPT valve connections rely on deformation as the threads and connectors form together. Pipe tape or a compound should be used on the threads to ensure a fluid-tight seal.

NPT valves should be used when a pipeline won't be disassembled frequently, as the wear on the threads will weaken due to its deformation design.
