This factory insulated multilayer composite pipe is supplied in a 50 metre coil, finished with a 10mm insulation layer and a blue protective jacket. Known under the trade name MIXAL, the pipe combines a polymer and aluminium construction, giving a strong, flexible solution for water and heating distribution.

The pipe construction consists of inner and outer polyethylene or PEX layers bonded to a central aluminium core through adhesive layers. This aluminium core acts as an oxygen barrier and provides good dimensional stability, while the smooth internal bore minimises scaling and reduces pressure loss over time. The insulation, typically a closed cell polyethylene or elastomeric foam, helps to reduce heat loss on heating circuits and limit condensation forming on cold water lines.

Resistant to corrosion and considerably lighter than copper or steel, the pipe is straightforward to handle and install. Its flexibility allows it to be routed through tight spaces without compromising structural integrity, making it suitable for a wide range of plumbing, heating, and HVAC installations.

Multilayer pipes of this type are commonly manufactured to EN ISO 21003 for multilayer piping systems used in hot and cold water installations, EN ISO 15875 for cross linked polyethylene piping systems, and BS EN 806 for drinking water installation specifications. Where supplied for UK potable water applications, WRAS approval and compliance with the UK Water Supply (Water Fittings).
