This pipe is a PEX-AL-PEX composite construction supplied in a 25 metre coil, with an outside diameter of 32 mm and a wall thickness of 3 mm. The inner and outer layers are formed from cross linked polyethylene, with a welded aluminium tube bonded between them by adhesive layers. A factory fitted 10 mm thick grey insulation jacket, typically closed cell polyethylene foam, surrounds the pipe for thermal performance.

The aluminium layer gives the pipe dimensional stability and acts as an oxygen barrier, a property that makes it a strong choice for heating and HVAC systems where oxygen ingress can affect system components. The insulation reduces heat loss and helps buildings meet energy efficiency requirements set out in Part L of the Building Regulations.

The pipe is commonly manufactured to comply with EN ISO 21003 for multilayer piping systems used in hot and cold water installations, EN ISO 15875 for PEX piping systems, and the UK adoption BS EN ISO 21003. Where used for potable water in the UK, WRAS approval applies, alongside compliance with Part G of the Building Regulations covering water systems.

A 25 metre coil weighs approximately 12.5 to 16 kg including insulation, with a typical estimate of 14 kg used for procurement purposes.
